Mission Statement
Springfield High School (SHS) is a public comprehensive high school dedicated to providing rigorous, rich academic programs for students in grades 9-12. With nearly 100 faculty members and support staff committed to both SHS traditions and the educational success of our approximately 1,200 students, we strive to help each individual attain their educational goals.
Academic Excellence: Students at SHS follow a trimester schedule designed to enhance the academic environment. This structure allows for more class time, increased teacher-student interaction, and greater opportunities for problem-solving and collaborative group activities. We offer a variety of enrichment programs, including Honors, Advanced Placement, and College Credit Plus classes, ensuring that our students are well-prepared for future academic endeavors.
In addition to our core academic offerings, SHS students have the option to enroll in vocational programs through Penta Career Center or take advantage of classes offered through the Springfield Digital Academy (SDA), our district's online virtual school. To learn more about the SDA, please select the link under the "Schools" tab on our website.
Personal Growth and Leadership: At Springfield High School, we encourage students to grow through community service, leadership development, and character building, all of which are interwoven into our academic and extracurricular programs. Our culture of servant leadership is embodied in our motto, "DEVILSasOne." This commitment to service was recognized when SHS received the prestigious Multiplying Good/Ev Harris Awards Foundation's "One in a Million" (previoously The Jefferson Award) award in 2024, following nine consecutive years of achieving the organization's Ambassador Gold Banner award. Additionally, our students were recently honored by ProMedica with the Junior Philanthropists of the Year Award for coordinating the annual Toy Drive, showcasing our dedication to doing "good" often and well.
Through our ongoing partnerships with Multiplying Good and Leadership Toledo, Springfield High School students are eligible for nomination to receive the esteemed Youth Jefferson Award, an honor that few earn during their high school careers. Since the inception of the Youth Jefferson Awards at SHS in 2009, 114 young leaders have mobilized their passion into action to improve our community, region, and world.
Innovative Programs: Springfield High School continues to strengthen its rigorous academic offerings by including a variety of innovative and unique courses, such as those available through Blue Devil Radio, 97.7 FM WNLB. Our nationally respected JROTC program, Science Olympiad, and other unique offerings further prepare our students for success in a global society.
As Blue Devils, we are rich in tradition, and we encourage all community members to become "true blue!" We are proud to offer College Credit Plus, which allows qualified students to receive credit for college-level courses at no cost to the student or their family.
Together, we are committed to empowering our students to achieve their fullest potential and become the leaders of tomorrow.
